This year's school continues to re-create and re-emphasise the WMA traditions.  A new course member last year said that there was something akin to a family atmosphere in the way people supported each other's endeavours. The tutors have entered into the spirit of this and are giving their skills for no payment other than expenses.  So as a result the cost in 2011 was £460. We intend to try to keep it close to this level.

Education for Tomorrow

http://eddie.idx.com.au/
This is a collective of teachers who campaign for a system of schooling common for all children, together with everything necessary to make this possible, by provision of buildings, materials and staffing, properly trained and properly paid. It opposes recent attempts to set up 'Academy Schools' together with the elitism and the loss of democratic accountability which accompanies these schemes. A quarterly magazine is published, and contact can be made through its web site.

Topic Records, 50 Stroud Green Road, London, N4 3ES

www.topicrecords.co.uk
Topic Records was created in 1939 by the Workers Music Association and was later given independence in 1960 and became a registered 'Company' in 1963 . Its 'Mission Statement' contains many features and aims reflecting its origins in the WMA. An element of campaigning can be seen in the way it tries to promote the traditional approach to 'Folk'. It has also attempted to stay up to date in producing the work of more rcent artists. See separate 'Topic' page.
